Some Handy examples for us
to communicate about
appearances
Bark = texture.
Here's
some common panel cuts and some artisan
comments.
1. Grips in antler
stag done entirely smooth. This mimics ivory fairly
well. A lot of shooters prefer a smooth / smoothish grip
for heavy recoiling handguns.
2. Bookmatched
splashes of brown bark. This is about 20%
coverage.
3. Perhaps 30%
coverage. Note, coverage at the butts is something that
can be consistently executed.
4. More coverage at
the butts. Many times Elk will mimic Sambar quite well
when cut this way.
5. Defined bark
lines running parallel to the backstrap is what I call 'raked' or
B-western bookmatched. I'll fulfill these requests but wait
time will be extended while I cut for panels.
6. Also
raked.
7. Rugged, cowboy
bookmatch. About 75% coverage
8. Rugged, cowboy
bookmatch. About 75% coverage
9. Rugged, cowboy
bookmatch. About 75% coverage. Primo, non-Elky
exotic look.
Customers can also spec butt
bevel angle, panel thickness, and medallions (assuming
availability).
