Proof codes for date of manufacture for Italian replica six-shooters

People ask, how old is my (insert make here:, Uberti, Jager, ASM, Pietta) sixgun?

The answer is not perhaps as obvious as it is with things made in USA and collected in USA, say Colt, SW, Ruger, Winchester, Remington.  With those, the various collector communities have seen to it that there are widely published date to serial lists.

That isn't going to be the case with the Italian replicas, but more often than not the answer is easily found stamped on the revolver.

Look on the revolver barrel or bottom or side of cylinder frame.  There, you should find a roman numeral or two character alphabetical stamp.  Take that, and cross reference it the list below.  That's your build date.

For all practical purposes, the import of Italian replica cartridge sixguns started in 1962.  We'll start about there.
